Pregnancy can be a trying time for some with many expectant mothers finding that getting a good night’s sleep can be difficult. In fact, as many as 78% of women say that they have difficulty sleeping during their pregnancy. But don’t worry, there’s good news too.

Research has shown that your sleeping position can be helpful and lying on your side with a pillow under your bump and between your legs can help with many of the ailments women go through when expecting.

So if you’re looking forward to having a night of sound sleep (especially before the baby comes and the midnight feeds start) here are some of the best options around to help you decide.

Leachco Snoogle Total Body Pillow Review

pillow for pregnancy womenWith the pillow laid on its side, it looks like a big C shape, which is great as it wraps all the way around your body, giving support in the areas you want it most. Instead of using many different pillows (one for your head, one behind your back, then another for your bump and another still between your legs) the snoogle gives you all of this without things moving around through the night, leaving you uncomfortable and fidgeting around to get things back to how you want them.

It lets you focus on the important stuff: sleeping. What’s more, it claims to be one of the bestselling body pillows around and is designed by a registered nurse and mother, so you can be sure it’s based on principled ideas. Bottom line, it keeps you cool and comfortable, allowing you to get a restful night of sleep.

Generally, reviews for this product are very good with the majority of buyers finding it comfortable and just what they wanted. On the down side, however, this particular model features a cotton/polyester blend cover which may or may not be a problem for you. If it is, there is a 100% cotton variant available for an extra $10.

Leachco Back 'N Belly Contoured Body Pillow

Aligns hips for neutral joint positioning

Provides equal support for back and tummy at the same time

No repositioning during the night, simply turn from side to side

Ideal for sciatica, gastric reflux, congestion, fibromyalgia, and carpal tunnel syndrome

top rated pillows for pregancy

This is another product rom Leachco and a variant on a similar design. Instead of a simple C shape, imagine it now has an hour glass shape inside in. These contouring differences are designed to follow the natural curves of your body and provide equal support for the back and tummy at the same time.

It also helps to align the hips for a more neutral joint position resulting in less tossing and turning and more rest.

Again, reviews for this pillow are solid and the majority of users find it comfortable. However, there seems to be one unfortunate drawback and that is the stitching seam. It goes around the inside of the loop, just where your neck rests and it’s a fairly common complaint that it becomes uncomfortable.

For some this won’t matter as the pillow is reversible, but in this angle it would offer a different height for the head and neck which might not suit all. A glaring design issue in an otherwise excellent product.

Pharmedoc’s Total Body Pregnancy Review

body pillow for pregnancy Featuring a similar C shape design to the Snoogle, PharMeDoc’s pillow features a 100% cotton removable cover which offers a greater level of softness and breathability over similar pillows with cotton polyester blends. It also allows you to remove the cover for easy washing.

It gives the same level of full body support that allows you to rest easier than with multiple pillows pushed into various positions and will not move around in the night. One of the key differences here is that it comes with a 100% money back guarantee which is nice as not everyone will find it comfortable. Pillows really are a personal choice, after all.

There’s nothing bad to report here with a slew of 4 and 5 star ratings from not only expectant mothers, but men, too. It’s worth mentioning that the manufacturer of this pillow suggests it can be useful for a variety of people including those recovering from surgery and injuries as well as pregnant and breast feeding women.

So when the baby finally arrives, you can keep hold of your pillow in the knowledge it will be continually useful!

J Shaped- Premium Contoured Body Pregnancy Maternity Pillow with Zippered Cover

Size: 60”L x 27”W x 7” H

Unique design and shape supports back and belly

Includes 1 pillow and 1 removable zippered protector

Helps prevent sciatica, heartburn, carpal tunnel and nasal congestion

J Shaped Contoured Pregnancy  Review

snoogle pregnancy pillow Marketed as a J shaped pillow, it’s essentially the same thing as the other C shaped pillows. It wraps around your body providing support to the important areas and is large enough to accommodate most women, from small to larger.

There’s nothing that makes this product stand out in its design though; it’s the same shape, with memory foam filling and a removable outer cover that is machine washable.

That’s not a bad thing though, it’s soft and just like the other pillows it can help to prevent all of the same ailments that expecting mothers often experiences, including heartburn, congestion and sciatica.

On the plus side, it’s roughly 25% cheaper than the alternatives which represents a decent saving if money is a concern. It has similar design features so it will give plenty of support and the cover is removable for laundering. It’s sadly not all good though.

Some reviewers state that it’s a very firm pillow and depending on what you are looking for, that could be a positive or a drawback. What will almost certainly be a drawback for everyone though is that it tends to retain a lot of heat, making the user feel hot and uncomfortable through the night.

To sum up, a cheaper option with the same basic design elements, but let down by excessive heat retention and possibly being a little too firm.

Blowout Bedding’s Multi-Position Contoured Review

C Shaped- Premium Multi-Position Contoured Body Pregnancy Maternity Pillow with Zippered CoverYet another C shaped design pillow, made from memory foam and available in a range of colours, it offers a similar level of support to other pillows like it. It wraps around your back, giving your head a natural resting position and something to keep your legs apart to regulate heat.

It features a removable and machine washable cover which is important, but is let down by a couple of badly designed faults.

First and foremost, many reviews have mentioned the strong chemical smell, even after washing. Various countries have introduced requirements for certain products to contain a list of contents and it’s been claimed this label is missing.

For something you’re probably looking at to help during pregnancy, overwhelming chemical off gassing and worries of what’s inside are not things you’ll be glad about.

Less serious, but also important, is that the zipper for the removable cover is placed poorly and has a tendency to poke you in the face. Definitely not a plus!

Overall, there’s better options for similar prices and this is one to be avoided.

All of the pillows follow the same design principles; to provide excellent support without the need for multiple pillows that move around in the night. As with most things though, it’s the small things that count and small oversights in some of these products has ruled them out.

A poorly placed seam or zipper can render the item uncomfortable and ultimately, unusable for some. Both of the products from Leachco were strong contenders, with the contoured pillow being a favourite. However, with this model, a poor seam position led to irritation for some people and the Snoogle lacks a 100% cotton cover without additional cost.

Strong chemical smells and questions with contents from Blowout Bedding makes it one to be avoided.

That all leads to a clear choice: PharMeDoc’s Total Body Pregnancy Pillow. It takes all of the good points and leaves all of the bad behind. It’s supportive and comfortable with a 100% cotton cover included in the price and is marketed at not only pregnant women but those recovering from surgery and injuries, too.
